In general, it is important to tonify the spleen to build blood. In Chinese Medicine the spleen creates blood, which is important for energy and wellbeing. The Spleen sends the refined food essence to the Heart for production of Blood.

The Spleen has a significant role in digestion and metabolism of foods. In Chinese Medicine, spleen is an organ that appreciates moderation and regularity. Some ways to protect the spleen include the following:

1. Food should be well chewed.
2. Several small amount of meal are better than a large meal
3. Eat your largest meal in the beginning of the day.
4. Don’t eat late at night.
5. Food should be cooked.
6. Beverages should be drunk at room temperature or warmer.

Most meats, fish, beans and nuts are considered foods that benefit the spleen. They often benefit those with weak constitution and conditions.

Other food that benefits the spleen is: apples, pears apricots, figs, squash, almonds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and sweet potatoes.

Small amount of meat products: Lamb, Beef, Chicken (Egg)
Dark Leafy Green: Spinach, Beet
